Don’t buy it if…
- You want one beautiful object to wrap and hand over. A printed keepsake from one of the print-book brands is the better buy, and we say so on our comparison pages.
- Bedtime reading is already working. If you are halfway through a chapter book your child loves, finish it — nothing here beats that.
- You want it for a child much under three. The stories are written to be read aloud and followed, and below about that age there is not much for them to steer.
- You would rather not have another subscription. That is a completely reasonable position.
It’s probably worth it if…
- You are out of ideas by Wednesday and the shelf has stopped working.
- Your child has reached the age where being in the story matters more than the story, and wants their own people in it.

What does the free week actually include?

What happens to the stories if I cancel?
They stay yours. The stories already written remain in your account and in your inbox — cancelling stops new ones arriving, it does not take back the ones you have.
Is this better than just reading a book?
No, and we will not claim it is. A parent reading a much-loved book aloud is the gold standard and always has been. Dandle is for the nights when you have run out of ideas, or when the child in question has decided every book on the shelf is boring.
